THE man behind two of the North East's most innovative companies is featured in the July issue of Arena magazine after being nominated for the Arena O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Steve Bainbridge, owner of Podcast Digital and Beatsuite.com was included in the magazine after being singled out as one of Newcastle's most gifted entrepreneurs – and was invited to attend the award ceremony in London last week.

William Drew, editor of Arena magazine, said: "Following a successful launch in 2003, this year the prestigious Arena O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year Award has been extended to six regions across the UK to celebrate individuality and new perspectives on running entrepreneurial businesses that are in tune with contemporary living.

“We have been delighted with the calibre of entrepreneurs that have entered this year’s Entrepreneur competition, especially from the vibrant city of Newcastle.

"Whether they are bringing new business perspectives to the fields of marketing or online music, this new breed of innovative, creative British men are shaping our lives, our cities and ultimately will become the future faces in business.“

Steve said: “Arena is the original 'gentleman’s' magazine and triggered a whole generation of similar mags such as FHM, Loaded and Maxim. It was, however, Arena that featured top class articles and journalism as well as very posh clothes, women and cars.

"I had never bought Arena magazine before but had obviously heard of it. After a quick read I was really impressed by well-written articles, witty humour and stylish presentation.

"I was pleased to be featured in the mag and seeing it in print was a great buzz.”

This month's issue of the magazine featured all the award nominees from Newcastle, including Chris Taylor, the Director of Connect member Superkrush Productions.

Also featured were Mathew Dowden (who runs Marketing Magic), Pete Ross and Andy Hunt (Fresh Element), Mathew Mavir (LastNightOfFreedom.com) and Nick James (Mushroom Works – an artist’s workspace and exhibition centre).

Business is booming at Beatsuite.com, a cutting-edge North East company that provides high quality royalty-free music over the Internet, after it was featured in a BBC News 24 documentary highlighting the UK's most innovative online companies.

The Newcastle-based firm was featured in 'Net Profits,' a 30-minute documentary which considered how the internet has changed the face of British industry and how companies in regions like the North-East of England are moving away from their declining traditional industries and into the booming technology market. It profiled some of the most exciting Internet companies in the UK and looked at how they had managed to carve out global success.

After being featured on the report, which was shown all over the world throughout the beginning of January, the online production music library www.beatsuite.com has received an increase in orders from the US, Asia and Europe as well as attracting lots of attention from professional music composers interested in becoming part of the team.

Beatsuite.com was chosen for the show from the many successful technology firms in the North East because of its recent success in the E-Commerce Awards late last year. The company won the 'Best Use of Broadband' Category at the North East award show in October and narrowly missed out on an award at the national ceremony a month later.

Beatsuite.com, which was launched by DJ and music composer Steve Bainbridge in November 2004, provides businesses with easy access to high quality production music tracks for a variety of uses. The service makes the process simple by offering its customers a royalty free music license instead of employing traditional music licensing, which can be complicated and time-consuming.

An online music library launched by Newcastle-based beatsuite.com to provide easy access and download of high quality, royalty free music and sounds is proving a real success.

Beatsuite.com, which took 15 months to develop, was launched by DJ Steve Bainbridge only nine months ago to offer film, video, multi-media production companies and games developers an online, high-quality, royalty-free music service.

Already, beatsuite.com has attracted clients such as London-based advertising agency Thirty Three and has chalked up sales across the world including the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany and Mexico.

Bainbridge, Managing Director of beatsuite.com says the early successes show that www.beatsuite.com is the type of service production companies and agencies are looking for and will use, and that there is an international market for the provision of royalty free online music and sound effects.

Digital Killed The Radio Star

The work of the Beat Suite was profiled at a major music event, organised by Codeworks Connect and chaired by music industry legend Tony Wilson, at the Sage Gateshead on July 8.

The event brought together major players from the digital music industry together including Wilson (F4 records), the man famous for signing Joy Division, New Order and the Happy Mondays, and who created both Factory Records and The Hacienda nightclub in Manchester.

All of these are major achievements in the music industry, and were revolutionary and inspirational at the time - just ask anyone who remembers nightclubbing in the 1980/1990s and they will testify. They were the hype of the British music industry.

The event featured a panel of music industry experts talking about the digital music industry and its forecasted effect on culture and business. Many issues were raised and discussed at the event, which proved very popular among the digital media and music-based companies in the audience.

Music on the internet and mobile phones is moving into the mainstream of consumer life, with legal download sites spreading internationally, more users buying songs in digital format and record companies achieving their first significant revenues from online sales.

These are the conclusions of the IFPI Digital Music Report 2005, a comprehensive review of the music industry's digital strategies and of the fast-emerging market for online and mobile music distribution. The report is published today by IFPI on behalf of its more than 1,450 member record companies across the world.

Music fans downloaded well over 200 million tracks in 2004 in the US and Europe - up from about 20 million in 2003. This helped bring record companies their first year of significant revenues from digital sales, running into several hundred million dollars. Analyst Jupiter estimates that the digital music market was worth US$330 million in 2004, and is expecting it to double in value in 2005.

The supply of music available digitally is proliferating. The number of online sites where consumers can buy music legally has now hit more than 230, up from 50 a year ago, with record companies licensing the bulk of their active catalogue for download, totalling over one million songs - more than doubling the amount of available repertoire within one year. Services like iTunes and Napster have become household names internationally, and many other national sites are specialising in local repertoire.

Portable players, led by the hugely successful iPod, and mobile phones, are helping transform the consumer experience of enjoying music and creating new revenue opportunities. There are estimates that 50% of mobile content revenues will be from music.

The report highlights the industry's international campaign to help promote the legal download market - including a national 'Download Me Legally' campaign by artists in France, an online campaign advert 'The Drummer' promoting legitimate sites across Europe and the pro-music information campaign directing music fans to 230 download websites in over 30 countries.

It indicates that consumer attitudes to digital music are changing, with a new survey in six European countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, UK) showing that nearly one in three music downloaders intend to buy from legal music services in the coming months (31% compared to 22% currently).

Despite the encouraging signs for the future, the report makes clear that much more needs to be done both to promote the digital music business and to fight the huge problem of internet piracy. Music downloading is still in its infancy, with less than one in ten people downloading songs and only one person in two, in the key 16-29 age group, aware of the existence of legal ways of buying music online.

Digital piracy remains a very significant problem, but the recording industry's campaign of legal actions against music uploaders is helping contain it. Consumer awareness of the illegality of unauthorised file-sharing remains very high (seven people out of 10) compared to before the enforcement actions began. The supply of music files on unlicensed P2P services has fallen over the last year. The total number of infringing music files on the internet in January 2005 is slightly down on one year ago at 870 million tracks, and this is despite a huge increase in the use of broadband internationally.

The report reviews the progress of more than 7,000 legal actions launched so far against alleged illegal uploaders in eight countries (Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, UK, US), and makes clear there will be many cases launched in more countries in 2005. Uploaders facing the threat of litigation are now regularly paying settlement fees averaging several thousand euros in Denmark, Germany and Austria.

As use of the Internet continues to grow geometrically, we see an increased demand for information to be provided by a variety of media. Viewing options can range from simple text to PDF documents to video clips. Unfortunately, each option requires more and more resources and technological know-how. As convergence moves inexorably forward, we have to ask ourselves if there is a practical way to combine the best of this technology and still provide the user with a satisfying Internet experience.

The answer, at this stage of Internet evolution, is audio.

Voice, by itself, provides the means to enhance a user’s enjoyment of the Internet. Voice conveys many of the intangibles underlying the written word. A voice can touch the human spirit and deliver a message on its’ own merits. Audio can build community and maintain relationships.

Audio is the most mature of the streaming technologies and doesn’t have the bandwidth requirements associated with video. Any Internet user connecting at 28.8k or better can enjoy FM quality sound without experiencing buffering and other annoyances that can affect video at lower bit rates.

It is common knowledge that people only retain 20% of what they read, but they do remember 70% of what they see and hear. That fact in itself increases the value of an audio message delivered from a website for the typical user. And, the implications of how audio can increase Internet enjoyment for the handicapped are overwhelming.

Streaming audio provides Internet businesses with unlimited opportunities to reach their audience and to simplify their interactions. Streaming audio broadens a product’s appeal and helps to stimulate sales. People are comfortable with audio and have few qualms about using it in their day-to-day lives.

Retailers can integrate audio into their operations in several ways. Use it to enhance product descriptions and deliver product information in ways far more persuasive than plain text. Booksellers can have “special events” that offer audio excerpts from selected titles. Art dealers can use voice to give value added information on an artist or a period of history depicted by an artist’s work. (Think of those audio tours that museums offer.)

Organizations that specialize in selling educational tools can use audio clips for potential clients to preview and evaluate the material being offered. The ability to sample the product is a potent and practical selling aid.

Business-to-Business sites and corporate Intranets can also harness the power of audio. The need to provide up-to-the-minute information for employees and customers can be well served with streaming audio and the telephone. Integrating audio into the corporate communications mix is a tool that is easy to use and addresses the need to communicate with a distributed work force.

In both the retail and business-to-business marketplace, audio can and should be used to maintain those all important customer relationships. Voice messages add a personal touch that intrigues the listener and encourages them to remain on the site.

Employee training is greatly enhanced with audio. Use it to orient new employees and keep the information archived on the site for easy reference. Sales training can also be archived and quickly retrieved when needed. The ability to offer customized audio training materials on a 24/7 basis makes streaming audio a very versatile and efficient learning tool.

Some words of caution are also necessary. Audio, just like any other value-added technology, has to be used judiciously. It should be employed for a specific purpose and to enhance the text based message being delivered. Think of your audience and how you’d like them to interact with your website. Keep in mind that your visitor may be coming to your site while they’re at their place of business and plan accordingly.

The future of streaming audio is bright and filled with promise. More and more Internet users have become familiar with streaming audio and use it everyday. Internet radio broadcasts are extremely popular and are now being employed as effective advertising vehicles. Audio e-mail messaging is becoming widely available and is being positioned as a practical business tool. Consumers are attaching audio messages to greeting cards and experimenting with Internet telephony. Streaming audio will allow the average Internet user the ability to create content that conveys the power of voice and the emotions that it conveys.

The main story is a gangster film with a twist and stars Eastender's hard man Alex Ferns alongside other British talents. The hugely experienced cast also includes Tom Georgeson (A Fish Called Wanda, Land Girls), Kenneth Cranham (Two Men Went To War) and James Cosmo (Braveheart, Trainspotting, Troy).

Man Dancin' is directed by Emmy and BAFTA award winning director, Norman Stone and produced by Ray Marshall. The screenplay is by Sergio Casci, who also wrote the soon to be released American Cousins

Without benefit of the logo or any visual cues, a majority of the brand attributes associated with Intel immediately come to mind. This is the power of sound, and in the Internet space it's being virtually ignored.

Advertisers have known for decades the importance of sound to build brand loyalty. Before television, radio was the popular vehicle for promoting brands. No animated logos or flashing banner ads, but jingles galore, many of which are still stuck in our heads. CD-A (Compact Disc Audio) is the format to which domestic and commercial CD players adhere. When you create a music CD on a computer it is burnt in the CD-A format. All music purchased from a music store on CD is in the CD-A format.

This is the standard Audio CD format and is used by all manufacturers of hi-fi, CD, Discman etc. Almost all CD burning software supports this format enabling anyone with a modern computer to create Audio CD's.

By default Audio CD's can hold 74 minutes of audio regardless of sound quality. All music on an audio CD is created as CD quality 44.1KHz, 16-Bit, Stereo. File size of CD-A compares to that of other uncompressed formats such as WAV and AIFF.

What is MP3?
MP3 was developed as a way of compressing the file sizes of traditional audio formats (WAV/AIFF) for easier and faster Internet distribution. It is in effect full quality music compressed to be as small as possible.

MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3, digital audio compression format achieving smaller file sizes by eliminating sounds the human ear can't hear or doesn't easily pick up. MP3 Technology basically compresses audio by removing unnecessary parts of the file. It optimizes the file to make it smaller whilst retaining as much sonic quality as possible.

MP3 as a general rule is a tenth (1/10) the file size of CD Audio or highest quality WAV or AIFF. MP3 was developed to make the file size of music files smaller so that online users could download them quicker; this enabled a new form of music distribution on the Internet.

Note - MP3 is short for MPEG Audio Layer 3. MPEG refers to the Moving Pictures Experts Group, an organization that sets international standards for digital formats for audio and video. The file-shrinking technology itself was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany.

As a rule near CD quality MP3 requires approx 2 MB per minute file space (about 1/10th of uncompressed WAV or AIFF).

What is WAV?
WAV is the native audio format developed by Microsoft and IBM for the Windows computer system. It stands for Windows Audio Version (WAV). It is an uncompressed audio format. This means that it is much larger in file size than MP3 but can support the highest possible audio recording quality as well as lower quality settings.

Almost all audio files ending with .WAV can be played on PC platform software. WAV supports the highest possible audio standards and was made to enable music to be digitised for use in the digital domain (Computers).

WAV can support music from the highest quality 48K recording through to Internet live streaming at 11K (about the quality of a hand-held radio).

By default, WAV consumes around 10 MB of space per minute.
3 minutes of music = 30 MB file space (CD quality).

What is AIFF?
AIFF (Audio Integrated File Format) is the native audio file format developed by Apple for the Macintosh computer platform. It is an uncompressed audio format. This means that it is much larger in file size than MP3 but can support the highest possible audio recording quality as well as lower quality settings.

Many audio editors and software can handle both WAV and AIFF audio formats. This format was developed as a way of putting audio files into a digitised format for use on computers. The digitisation of sound into a computer based file format has completely revolutionised music production, recording, distribution, performance and consumption.

AIFF can support music from the highest quality 48K recording through to lower quality recordings.

By default, AIFF consumes around 10 MB of space per minute.
3 minutes of music = 30 MB file space (CD quality).

What is AAC?
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is the next generation of audio codec developed by Fraunhofer that seeks to preserve audio quality at lower bit-rates. It means that it can result in higher quality sound than MP3 whilst remaining the same file size. This is a fairly new format but it supported by many of the new music players and media players.

What is Apple Lossless Encoding?
Apple Lossless (also known as Apple Lossless Encoder, ALE, or Apple Lossless Audio Codec, ALAC) is an audio codec developed by Apple Computer for lossless encoding of digital music.

Apple Lossless data is stored within an MP4 container with the filename extension .m4a. It is not a variant of AAC, but a totally new codec. iPods with a dock connector and recent firmware can play Apple Lossless encoded files. It does not utilize any digital restrictions management scheme, but by the nature of the container, it is thought that DRM can be applied to ALAC much the same way it can with other files in QuickTime containers.

Apple claims that audio files compressed with its lossless codec will use up about half the storage space that the uncompressed data would require.

The Apple Lossless Encoder was introduced as a component of QuickTime 6.5.1 on April 28, 2004 and thus as a feature of iTunes 4.5. The codec is also used in the AirPort Express's AirTunes implementation.

What is 'Real Audio' (.RA)?
Real Networks developed the Real Audio file format as an audio format for streaming music across the Internet. Like MP3 it retains high audio quality whilst keeping file sizes as low as possible to maximise download speed for Internet users. It is frequently used for Internet Radio as well as auditioning music files and audio books. The end user must have the Real Audio player installed on their machine to stream the .ra audio. A plug-in is available for other media players so that you can play Real Audio files with them.

Although most people do not actually play music in the ra format it is one of the most commonly used formats for streaming music and movies live across the internet.

What is 'Windows Media Audio' (.WMA)?
WMA is a proprietary compressed audio file format used by Microsoft. It was initially a competitor to the MP3 format, but with the introduction of Apple's iTunes Music Store, it has positioned itself as a competitor to the advanced audio coding format used by Apple.

It is part of the Windows Media framework. An initial reason for the development of WMA might have been that MP3 technology is patented and has to be licensed from Thomson for inclusion in the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Files in this format can be played using Windows Media Player, Winamp and many other alternative media players. The FFmpeg project have reverse-engineered and reimplemented the WMA format to allow its use on POSIX compliant operating systems such as Linux.

Audio formats can easily be converted into different file types. We recommend using Apple's iTunes. It can convert audio from CD-A, WAV, MP3, AAC and into CD-A, WAV, MP3 and AAC.

The various settings within Audio formats and what they mean

Sample Rate
Sample rate is the number of times per second that the music waveforms are captured digitally. The higher the sample rate, the higher the quality and the larger the file size. Be sure to choose a sample rate that is no higher than the rate used to originally store the music, or you'll waste space.

Sample Bit Size
The sample size is the number of bits used to store each sample taken as the music is encoded. The higher the sample bit size, the better the quality and the larger the file size.
Examples: 16-Bit / 8-Bit

Channels
Mono files are about half the size of stereo files. Mono is appropriate if you don't have stereo speakers or if your audio files are monaural. If you'll be listening to your song files using headphones or your stereo system, choose Stereo or Auto. Auto converts tracks that are already monaural into mono files, and stereo files into stereo files. Using music online such as on a website it may be fine to use the Mono setting, however, if you plan to use music where it will be amplified by a sound system or large screen TV/Projector then you would want the highest possible quality - Stereo.

Most modern day audio/video encoders and players support both Mono and Stereo formats.

Stereo Bit Rate
The higher the mono or stereo kilobits per second (kbps), the higher the audio quality and the larger the file size. The most common bit rates for stereo AAC/MP3 files is 128 kbps. Lower bit rates are more appropriate for sound files containing voice recordings (as opposed to music).

Converting Audio into different format
There are a host of audio programs and media players/encoders on the market for both the MAC and PC user. The most important fact when using one of these programs is to find one that you are comfortable with and therefore confident in its results.

Introduction
‘Royalty Free Music’ is a term that refers to production music that has no additional fees to pay once the music has been bought. It is purchased once and can be used again and again. Since it has no additional license payments it is classed as ‘royalty free music’. This is not always true since fundamentally no music is ever royalty free.

Traditionally, production music had to be licensed each time it was used as part of a production or broadcast. For instance, TV programmers would have to pay a ‘Needle drop fee’ each time the music was used as part of a broadcast i.e. every time the needle was dropped on the record! The disadvantage is that it could be expensive and time consuming.

Royalty Free Music (RF music) is simply a way to make licensing music easier, cheaper and more convenient.

The Convenience of Royalty Free Music
The convenience of RF music means that it is an excellent solution for most production companies. The music is usually composed especially to work with TV, film, radio, computer games or multimedia. Its very composition targets certain moods, genres or themes. It is tailor-made for that exact purpose and fits the criteria of most production music needs.

The Differences in Royalty Free Music from Library to Library
Although the term ‘royalty free music’ is frequently used, most music libraries have various terms and conditions of use for their own music. For example beatsuite.com allows you to use music on a royalty free basis, that is it can be purchased once and used again and again on your projects. However to use that same piece of music on a TV advertising campaign you must negotiate a license fee. Our license terms reflect that. It means RF music is cost effective for many users but higher end applications such as TV advertising requires additional licensing.

Since there are now so many different uses of production music, the licensing terms must reflect that. This is why most independent music libraries have their own terms and conditions of use of their music. It varies from music library to music library. That is to say if you intend to use RF music then check the terms of use!

Some music libraries still operate a pay-per-use (Needle drop) licensing system. At beatsuite.com we have tried our best to create a music licensing system that is easy to understand and fair to a range of users.

Beatsuite.com allows all of our music to be used royalty free. We do however have a mass production license that deals with music that is duplicated in high numbers. This is for over 1,000 copies and covers any main platform such as computer games, CD, CDROM, DVD, Website templates and Video. We also operate a broadcast license for companies who use our music as part of broadcast production (TV, radio or film).

Where does the ‘royalty’ come in?
Broadcasters such as the BBC, Fox or Sky have to pay to broadcast music. This payment takes the form of a license that is issued by a performing rights organisation (PRO) such as PRS (Performing Rights Society) or ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). PRO’s administer licenses to music users on behalf of their members (music publishers, music libraries and musicians/artists).

Broadcasters notify the PRO’s of which music they have used by completing ‘cue sheets’.

A cue sheet is just a form that details the use of a piece of music within a broadcast. It outlines the name of the music, which programme it is part of and how the music is used, for how long, and how many times etc.

Cue sheets are submitted to the PRO’s who then calculate how much money is due to each of its members (composer, music publisher or music library) depending on the use of the music.

PRO’s then pay each of their members according to how much their music has been broadcast. This payment is known as a royalty. This is why even royalty free music is never truly royalty
free.

It is law for broadcasters to have a broadcast license, it is this license that is paying the royalty.

What about using Commercial Music?
Sometimes production companies and other music users like to use commercial music on their projects but this can be very expensive and complicated. It takes a lot of time to find out the copyright holder and apply for the rights to use commercial music. Also, the administration job can be lengthy and hard work. On top of this the fee can be quite expensive!

To avoid disappointment and even having to remove music from a film or video project at a later date it is advisable to use royalty free music, since it is both easy to access and also always a cost effective solution.

Royalty free music allows music users to use a piece of music that is just as well produced and composed as other types of commercial music but without the cost, time and effort involved.

Do I need any software to use the website?

What format are the music previews?
The previews you hear when sampling music online are compressed, reduced quality MP3 files and are watermarked with a voiceover to prevent unauthorised use. Purchased files are not compressed, reduced in quality or watermarked. All previews can be downloaded by registered users. For more info on opening compressed files, click here

How do I save my music selections?
Our music library is your music library and we want you to enjoy it. If you Create an Account and if you like the sound of any particular tracks you hear, you can add them to your basket. You can use our unique Project Manager to save and collect music and even share it

Can I share my music samples with colleagues/clients?
Of course! After all, the Internet was designed to share information. Once you have a music selection in your basket or project, you can use the Project Manager to email your collection to people. You can also download your files from your account. Simply click My Account at the website and click Order history. This displays what tracks were purchased, when and the price. You can download these tracks by clicking the title

I did not receive a download email
Download emails are sent from downloads@beatsuite.com. We advise you to add this address to your safe list or address book to ensure it is not filtered as SPAM or JUNK mail. This email is automated and can be subjected to filters blocking it, preventing it from reaching your Inbox. If you do not receive your download email within a few minutes of purchase, please check your SPAM/JUNK folder. You can also download your files from your User Account in your Order History

About the Order History
All tracks purchased are recorded in your account Order History. Simply click My Account click Order History. This displays what tracks were purchased, when and the price. What format is the music in when I download it?
All music tracks are supplied as Broadcast Quality Mp3 at 44 kHz, 320kps, 16-bit, Stereo Sound MP3 files. This is an accepted standard format by all major broadcasters such as the BBC. All Flash Music Loops are provided as uncompressed WAV 44.1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo Sound Files

How long does the license last for?
Once you have purchased the music and used it in your project it can be used in perpetuity. The music license lasts for 50 years after the death of the composer – so no worries there!

How many times can I use the music?
You can use the music as any times as you like, provided you do not exceed the License Terms

Can I use music for different media formats, such as video, websites or Podcasts?
If you license music from us you can use it across all of your different media formats such as promotional videos, website, podcast, CD-ROM, DVD or other platforms providing it does not exceed our License Terms

What if I need to duplicate music for CD-A, CD-ROM or DVD?
If you need to duplicate in excess of 500 copies on ANY media (including downloads or templates) then you need to purchase a Mass Production License to cover it. We will issue you with a License Certificate once the license has been purchased. It is a requirement by Law that duplication houses will ask for proof that you have the rights to duplicate the music

What about music used in Public Places?
If you are using music in places where the general public will be attending such as Museums, Visitor Centres, Attractions and other similar then you need to purchase music under the Public Performance License. Check our License Terms for more info

Can I use the music on my website or on a client’s website?
Yes, under the Standard License you can use our music on your website as background music or suchlike. It must be in a streaming format rather than downloadable otherwise you may be required to purchase the Mass Production License

Can I use music as part of a download?
Music can be used as part of a media format that is downloadable (Video, Podcasts) providing that you do not exceed more than 500 downloads. If so you may need to purchase a Mass Production License

Can I use music in TV or Radio Broadcast?

What is a Cue Sheet?
A Cue Sheet is a simple form that lists the sounds and music cues used in TV and Radio shows. The Cue Sheet is then sent by the broadcasters (such as a TV channel) to the Performing Rights Organisation like PRS (UK) or ASCAP (USA).

The Cue Sheet enables Performing Rights Organisations (PRO’s) to calculate royalty fees for their members (Music Composers, Publishers, Music Libraries).

What are PRS, ASCAP and BMI?
PRS (UK), ASCAP (USA) and BMI (USA) are all Performing Rights Organisations and are responsible collecting royalties for music composers, publishers and music libraries.
PRS is a non-profit organisation for music composers, publishers and artists. PRS is known as a collecting society because its primary role is collecting royalties from music users in the UK who every day publicly perform, broadcast and include music in public performances. PRS also collects royalties from around the world for its members through reciprocal agreements with collecting societies overseas. PRS collects the royalties by issuing a licence to the music user (usually charged on an annual basis). In order to then make royalty payments to its members, PRS needs to know what music is being played. Major users, such as the BBC and large concert venues, give PRS detailed reports of the music they play. For many other venues including commercial discos, clubs and pubs, PRS sends researchers to obtain first hand information. They give out licenses to pubs, clubs, hotels, bars and restaurants that play music to the public, whether it is via radio, CD or other media. They also pay royalties to the composers or artists whose music is played whether on TV, radio or other publicly performed area

What are Flash Music Loops?
Flash Music Loops are basically short pieces of music that have been created so that they can be looped by software such as Adobe Flash. The music plays continuously as one seamless music piece. They were originally developed as way of using music for websites where slow connection speeds meant that file sizes had to be reduced

Loops are also very handy for Video Production, DVD Menus and Podcast Production where music loops can be stretched to fit your timeline. They are flexible and effective when used in sets

Flash loops at Beatsuite.com vary in length from 4-25 seconds in length. Some of our Flash Loops come in sets so that when you purchase a loop you will get several variations to give you some flexibility. We also offer a CD collection of Flash Loops with over 120 loops on each CD

What are Audio Logos?

Is your website secure?
Beatsuite.com is hosted on high security servers that utilise the best anti-virus and security software. All financial transactions are handled by Worldpay and Paypal. All of our files are thoroughly checked with up to date anti-virus software and our website is also kept up to date with the latest security issues

Do I get an invoice?
You will receive a receipt from Worldpay or PayPal once your transaction has been completed. Although legally the email will state that it is not a tax receipt, it is acceptable proof of purchase both for your accounts and also for any future correspondence with us.
